Last semester after a tragic kiln accident, the 1st graders and I used "dead" clay turtles as drainage in a flower pot for a baby Japanese Maple tree. We really thought the "dead turtle tree" was dead itself, but over Spring Break it sprouted brand new, giant leaves! It's still a baby tree but it has leaves again! YAY!
