Second grade students have been exploring seascapes and we've looked a variety of seascapes, including this wonderful painting by Vincent van Gogh. Students compared landscapes to seascapes, and we realized that they have a lot in common- like a horizon line, a foreground, a middle ground, and a background!

So, after a review of perspective, the artists used tempera to paint a seascape, then folded paper squares to build origami sailboats! One big sailboat for the foreground, one medium sized sailboat for the middle ground, and one teeny tiny sailboat for the background.
